Spanish clean energy leader Grenergy has successfully secured USD 268 million (approximately EUR 227.66 million) in senior non-recourse financing for the development of the Monte Águila hybrid power station project in Chile. The completion of this landmark financing marks the full-speed advancement of Phase 4 of the Central Oasis platform, unlocking tangible procurement opportunities for BESS liquid cooling piping suppliers.
The Monte Águila project will deliver stable clean power to Chile’s central power grid and stands as a key milestone in Grenergy’s renewable energy layout across the region.
Solar Capacity: 342 MW
Energy Storage Capacity: 1.03 GWh (approximately 1,034–1,100 MWh)
Overall Platform Scale: The Central Oasis platform targets a total of 1.1 GW solar + 4 GWh energy storage, with an overall investment of around USD 900 million
Commissioning Timeline: Phased operation from 2026 to 2027
Business Model: 12-year daytime power purchase agreement (PPA), with surplus electricity sold via subsidiary GR Power
The platform is designed to replicate the successful model of Oasis de Atacama in northern Chile (2 GW solar + 11 GWh energy storage), set to become an iconic hybrid energy project in Latin America.
Financing Highlights & Strategic Significance
This financing was coordinated by BNP Paribas, with joint support from top global financial institutions including KfW Bankengruppe, Rabobank, Natixis and Scotiabank.
It represents another major milestone for Grenergy following the completion of the Gran Teno, Tamango and Planchón project phases. To date, Grenergy has secured nearly USD 2 billion in non-recourse financing for its Oasis platform in Chile.
David Ruiz de Andrés, CEO of Grenergy, stated: “Raising nearly USD 2 billion in financing for our OASIS platform in Chile within just 18 months validates the strengths of our model and our capability to execute large-scale projects. We now aim to replicate this success model across Europe.”
Grenergy plans to update its investment strategy through 2028 on May 27, 2026, covering more hybrid energy projects and the independent Greenbox platform in Europe.
Developer & General Contractor: End-to-End Delivery by Grenergy
Developer + EPC + Operator: Grenergy (Spanish Clean Energy Enterprise)
Adopting a full-value-chain end-to-end development model, Grenergy boasts rich experience in the construction and operation of over 100 solar projects in Chile, ranking among the region’s leading clean energy developers and constructors.
Rather than relying on a single external general contractor, Grenergy leads overall project development independently, engaging local and international subcontractors to undertake civil engineering, electrical installation and other on-site works. The project held its groundbreaking ceremony in October 2025 and has entered the substantive construction phase, with on-site works directly supervised by Grenergy’s professional team.
Core BESS Equipment Supplier: BYD Energy Storage
Agreement Date: March 26, 2026
Total Capacity: 2.6 GWh (2,600 MWh)
Equipment Quantity: 468 units of BYD MC Cube-T liquid cooling energy storage units (5–6.4 MWh per unit)
Battery Technology: Adopts high-safety, long-lifespan BYD Blade Batteries
Delivery Progress: The first batch of 168 units has been shipped from Dachan Bay to Chile
The Monte Águila project will be equipped with approximately 1,034–1,100 MWh of BESS, accounting for nearly 40% of the platform’s total energy storage capacity.
Piping Demand Analysis
The MC Cube-T unit adopts advanced liquid cooling technology, strictly controlling the battery temperature difference within 3–5°C — a core design to ensure the safe and efficient operation of large-scale energy storage systems. Large-scale cluster deployment generates substantial demand for piping networks, bringing stable order opportunities for piping manufacturers.
Main Piping Types & Applications
Core Liquid Cooling Main & Branch Pipes
Applied to the circulation of coolant between battery modules, clusters and containers, including main inlet pipes, main outlet pipes and branch pipes.
Function: Deliver coolant (typically 50/50 water-glycol mixture) to each battery module for uniform heat dissipation.
Connection Pipes & Flexible Hoses
Used for connections between modules, clusters and external heat exchangers.
Features: High flexibility for convenient on-site installation and vibration absorption.
Auxiliary Piping
Fire protection system piping (sprinkler or gas fire suppression supporting pipelines)
On-site water supply and drainage piping (rainwater collection, sewage discharge)
HVAC & auxiliary cooling piping (control room, inverter area)
Temporary water supply piping for construction
Volume Estimation (Monte Águila Project Reference)
The project will deploy around 160–200 MC Cube-T units, with each unit requiring 10–30 meters of liquid cooling pipelines. The total length of clustered piping networks reaches several kilometers, supplemented by hundreds of meters of infrastructure and fire protection pipelines.
Summary & Cooperation Outlook
The steady advancement of Grenergy’s Monte Águila hybrid power station project marks another important milestone in Chile’s clean energy development, while opening up premium market access for global suppliers of BESS liquid cooling piping, fire protection piping and infrastructure pipe products.
