Nakheel Makes a Major Move!
Dubai Islands Island B Project: Contract Scope & Demand for Metal Flanges and Fittings
The contract includes roadworks and paving, potable water networks, electrical and telecommunications systems, drainage and sewerage networks, district cooling plant network integration, and technical coordination with existing infrastructure on Island A. These works will lay a solid foundation for subsequent residential, hospitality and mixed-use developments on Island B, driving the high-quality delivery of the overall Dubai Islands master plan.
Potable Water Network
Ductile iron and carbon steel are specified as the primary materials. Key supporting fittings include dismantling joints (adjustable length: 50–300 mm), flange adaptors, flexible couplings with EPDM seals, as well as a full range of elbows, tees and reducers. All products must comply with WRAS certification requirements and adopt inert rubber gaskets.
Drainage & Sewerage Systems
Ductile iron and carbon steel are predominantly utilised. Flange ratings range from PN6 to PN10, manufactured in accordance with EN 1092 and ISO 7005 standards, with nominal sizes concentrated between DN200 and DN800. Pipeline sections crossing roadways require concrete encasement, alongside epoxy or bitumen anti-corrosion coatings to ensure long-term operational reliability.
District Cooling Network
Representing the highest-value segment of the entire project, the district cooling system adopts carbon steel carrier pipes integrated with pre-insulated systems complying with EN 253. Factory pre-insulated elbows, tees, reducers, dismantling joints and flange adaptors are deployed to achieve seamless integration and coordination with Island A facilities. The system operates at a working temperature of 4–13.5°C and a maximum pressure of 20 bar, with strict compliance to Empower/Tabreed regulations and full insulation integrity standards.
