The Wolf Summit Energy project utilizes the world-leading GE Vernova 7HA.02 gas turbine, delivering robust power through highly efficient and flexible advanced combined-cycle technology. Beyond serving as the equipment supplier, GE Vernova is deeply involved in project financing and co-development via its financial services division, forging a strategic partnership with Kindle Energy and Blackstone.
Brian Ray, Chief Executive Officer of GE Vernova Financial Services, stated: “We are honored to partner with Kindle Energy and Blackstone on the development and financing of the Wolf Summit project. This project will help deliver more efficient and reliable power to meet the region’s growing electricity demand. It also underscores the strength of GE Vernova’s 7HA.02 technology and our ability to support customers with financing and energy equipment solutions.”
As West Virginia’s first-ever combined-cycle natural gas power plant, the Wolf Summit project will efficiently meet the surging power demand driven by the rapid growth of AI data centers and industries within the PJM grid, providing reliable, clean, and highly efficient energy solutions for the local area and 13 eastern states.
GE Vernova (formerly GE Gas Power) is a global leading supplier of gas turbines, actively participating in natural gas power projects with multiple power developers, independent power producers (IPPs), and utility companies, with a particular focus on power demand driven by AI data centers.
Below are other major development projects that GE Vernova has participated in recently (2025–2026), excluding those related to Kindle Energy and Blackstone:
NRG Energy Projects (U.S. ERCOT and PJM Markets):
Plans to construct approximately 5.4 GW of new natural gas combined-cycle power plants across four projects. GE Vernova will supply 7HA-series heavy-duty gas turbines and participate in co-development and rapid deployment. The first phase of projects is expected to commence commercial operations in 2029, aiming to quickly respond to data center power demand.
Homer City Energy Campus (Pennsylvania):
A former coal-fired plant repurposed into a natural gas-powered data center campus with a planned capacity of nearly 4.5 GW. GE Vernova will supply seven 7HA.02 gas turbines, with the initial 1.2 GW phase scheduled for commissioning in 2029. The project will significantly reduce emissions and support the PJM and NYISO grids.
Duke Energy Projects (Southeastern and Midwestern U.S.):
Agreements covering up to 20 7HA gas turbines for multiple specific projects. GE Vernova will provide domestically manufactured equipment in the U.S. to support power expansion driven by data center and population growth.
The Three Giants of the Gas Turbine Market: Strong Competitors to GE Vernova
The global gas turbine market is highly concentrated, with GE Vernova, Siemens Energy, and Mitsubishi Power collectively accounting for roughly two-thirds of market share. The three companies offer highly similar service models: they not only supply equipment but also provide long-term maintenance, performance upgrades, hydrogen blending capabilities, digital monitoring, and financing or partnership support during project development. They are also actively expanding U.S. manufacturing capacity to meet surging power demand.
Siemens Energy (Primary Direct Competitor):
Siemens Energy offers the SGT-series heavy-duty gas turbines (198 MW to 593 MW), supporting high-efficiency combined-cycle operation, fast-start peaking, and hydrogen fuel compatibility. Services include long-term O&M agreements, grid equipment, and hybrid power solutions. In 2026, Siemens Energy announced a $1 billion investment to expand U.S. manufacturing capacity—including resuming gas turbine production in Charlotte, North Carolina—to support AI data center demand. It has supplied multiple gas turbines to Xcel Energy for projects in Texas and New Mexico.
Mitsubishi Power:
Mitsubishi Power specializes in the large, high-efficiency J/G-series gas turbines, leading in hydrogen co-firing and carbon capture-ready technologies. It provides full EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) solutions and long-term services. The company plans to double its global gas turbine production capacity within two years, with a strong order backlog for 2027–2028, primarily serving growing demand from data centers and utilities.
These leading manufacturers are jointly driving the rapid development of the U.S. natural gas power sector, delivering reliable, efficient, and low-carbon power solutions for the AI era.
As West Virginia’s first combined-cycle natural gas power plant, the efficient, safe, and reliable pipeline system of the Wolf Summit Energy Project relies on high-quality flanges, pipe fittings, and supporting accessories.
GMpiping specializes in supplying carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and special material flanges, pipes, fittings, and valves for the natural gas power generation, petrochemical, and electric power industries. All products strictly comply with international standards including ASME, ANSI, and API, featuring exceptional high-pressure, high-temperature, and corrosion-resistant performance to fully meet the pipeline connection requirements of the GE Vernova 7HA.02 gas turbine system and the entire power plant.
Whether for rapid supply during project construction or maintenance and upgrades throughout long-term operation, GMpiping leverages its AI system BANGUO to deliver professional technical support, stable supply chains, and on-time delivery services, empowering industry leaders such as Kindle Energy and Blackstone. We look forward to collaborating with more energy developers to build an efficient and clean energy future.
